Kenzo Spring/Summer 2010

The spring 2010 Kenzo collection was desert meets ethnic chic. The brightly colored sheers fabrics and the intricate prints were the highlights. The show featured several models of color. Here are a couple of inspiring looks from the collection. What can we learn here? Don’t be afraid to wear bold color, mix patterns and rock sky high strappy sandals with shorts, cuffed pants, skirts and dresses.

Julian Louie Spring 2010

The tonal palette was the highlight of Julian Louie’s spring 2010 collection. There was this muted coral color that just blew me away. Aren’t these neo-naturals splendid? I’ve never seen some of these hues. The color story was simply genius. The entire collection looked clean and fresh, despite the powdery faced models. Ok, that sounds bad. I have an appreciation for the makeup concept, but it’s obviously not wearable for the masses. The makeup was abstract and I adored it as art. As for the hair, the buns were delightful. Ugh! This collection was just very well-executed and impeccable. Here are my favorite looks.

Junya Watanabe Spring 2010 Ready To Wear

The fascinating sculptural head pieces are what drew me to the spring 2010 collection of Junya Watanabe. The wraps were very Badu circa 1997, taken up a notch. The garments were a sight also: menswear for women and the pieces are super flattering, the way they cinch the waist. Junya Watanabe designed a very edgy cardigan worn by Mrs. Obama (which reminded me of the episode of The Cosby Show where Denise makes Theo a knockoff Gordon Gartrell shirt — I digress).

What do you think of the collection and the head wraps? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

More Victoria Beckham

Can you tell I’m obsessed with Victoria Beckham? These are some of my favorite looks from the Fall 2009 collection. Yeah, I know… so last season… right? I just love everything that she does. So if you don’t have a couple of thousands to spend on a dress, you can always take a photo to an amazing dress maker and have them crank out a custom dress inspired by your favorite designers.

Victoria Beckham Body Conscious Pencil

Yeah, I know it’s from 2009, but I just loved the looks from Victoria Beckham’s spring 2009 collection. They are timeless pieces that I thought I’d share with you. I’m a little biased when it comes to pencil dresses. I was first inspired to wear the look a few years ago when I saw Tracee Ellis Ross rocking them and studied the history and found them quite fascinating. Around this time, I was just coming into my womanhood: just out of college and I always felt more like a grownup in a pencil dress. Now, these dresses start at $1500 and I don’t know if I’d ever pay that much for a dress so I always find dresses in fabrics I like with the length I like (mid-calf) and get them altered to hug me perfectly. If it were up to me I’d wear pencil dresses and platform pumps everyday. Anyway, the cut and lines of these dresses are amazing and hopefully you are as inspired by them as I am.

Lacoste Makes Wraps Happen

The head wraps and hair accessories from Lacoste’s spring 2010 collection had a beachy retro kind of vibe. If you’re bracing yourself for a hot summer, long days by the pool or traipsing the streets sight-seeing, then you should consider protecting your hair in this very chic way.

Isaac Mizrahi Spa 2010 Collection

There’s much to love about Issac Mizrahi’s Spa 2010 collection. My favorite assets from the collection: the candy store inspired textiles, using neon colors as neutrals, stocking cap-like head wraps, great belts, large flower-like embellishments, figure-flattering wrap tops, the black and white prints and the great suits.

Sonia Rykiel S/S 2010

The vintage vibe of the garments and the inventive use of texture and headpieces of Sonia Rykiel’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection had me awe-struck. I might not copy the hair styles literally, but the collection definitely inspired some ideas. A few areas where I took notes: headpiece placement, fun with color, bright orange color lip color, the large horseshoe belt buckles, fitted knee shorts, patterned sunglass frames and sheer black stockings. Here are a few of my favorite looks. See anything you like?

Malandrino S/S 2010

There was a lot to like from the Malandrino spring summer 2010 collection/look book. Let’s talk about the hair. There were a couple of styles that caught my attention: the center parted french braids, the head wraps, twisted cornrow updo and the messy twisted boho updo (all of which are shown below). I also liked the diversity of the models. Here are some of my favorite looks from the collection.
