Curl Spotter: Quirky Collective

Quirky Collective

Quirky Collective is my new favorite kid clothing store and no, I don’t have kids. I just stumbled upon it this morning. Check it out for yourself at www.quirkycollective.com. Lots of cute pics of the little curls on the blog, iamquirky.com.

Here’s why I love it… the little models and their curly hair! Plus the clothes are dope. The blog is cool because it gives customers ideas on how kids can wear the pieces sold in the shop. Quirky Collective’s owner also does something she calls a “tailor-made style guide” where she gives parents customized ideas/options for outfits. Cool shop!

Shopping New Orleans: S.N.A.P.

Done up with zebra-striped rugs, a comfy white couch and chiffon-curtained dressing rooms, this concrete-floor-clad spot is a fitting backdrop for hip brands like Haute Hippie, Alice + Olivia and Rebecca Taylor. If Mary Kate and Ashley lived in New Orleans, I bet this would be one of their favorite shops. This is where I discovered the band, Ghostland Observatory. Shop here for easy on-trend pieces and enjoy the über cool tunes in the atmosphere. S.N.A.P. is located at 617 Metairie Road in Metairie, LA. You can also check out the website at www.SNAPNEWORLEANS.com.

The Goods: Em’s (Finale)

I thought I’d save the best for last. These are my favorite pieces, suitable wardrobe additions for daredevil tastemakers.

I once read a comment from a reader saying that they thought fur vests didn’t make sense, saying “if it’s cold enough for fur, it’s cold enough to have sleeves”. Well, in New Orleans it actually does make a lot of sense to have a fur vest. Why? It’s rarely ever cold enough here to wear a full on fur coat or even a fur jacket. Our winter weather is so erratic that it can be 40 degrees when you leave your house in the morning and jump to 75 degrees by lunch. Fur vests are perfect for this weather because you can just layer them over long sleeve tops, roll up your sleeves if you get hot or simply take it off. That being said, I probably won’t be rocking fur vests until we’re deep into the winter months because right now it’s still averaging about 75-80 degrees.

COOL PLACES TO SHOP IN NEW ORLEANS

Frustrated fashion arbiters in New Orleans no longer have to fret about the lack of shopping options. Em’s is an über-feminine wonderland, a sweet shop spot for girls who crave designer garb by the likes Cynthia Vincent and Mara Hoffman. Insanely full, on trend and well-appointed, Em’s is located at 246 Metairie Road in Metairie.

Stay tuned to see more including favorite pieces from Em’s.
