The 4-Hour Workweek

The 4-Hour Workweek, Expanded and Updated: Expanded and Updated, With Over 100 New Pages of Cutting-Edge Content. For the past two weeks, I’ve been reading The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss. It’s one of those books that I’ll probably be reading for the rest of my life. It’s just so packed with information that I get something new out of it every time I read it. I actually picked it up a few years ago, but I wasn’t ready for it. Now, I’ve decided to design my lifestyle. I’ve made a commitment to creating the lifestyle that I want. What is that, you may ask. Well, my dream lifestyle is to be able to do whatever I want whenever I want and be a member of the New Rich. I want to travel the world, I want to love, I want to learn, I want to make art, I want to support the arts, I want to rehab old houses and I could go on and on here. To do all those things, I can’t be stuck in a cubicle. I can’t be stuck in a 9-5. I can’t be glued in front of my iMac all day.

I grew up thinking: go to school, get a good 9-5, make a lot of money. I no longer think that is the life for me. It may work for other people but I love my freedom of time.  Time for me is like money. I don’t cook or want to know how to cook. Why cook when you can go to a restaurant? Yes, it may cost more to go to a restaurant financially, but time-wise for me it’s too expensive to cook at home. You have to shop for the food, prepare the food, cook the food, clean the dishes… it’s just all too much. Plus, I don’t like to cook. Wherever I can save time doing something I don’t like, but have to do… I outsource. I had an economics teacher in college that said he made well over $100 an hour so it wasn’t cost efficient for him to go grocery shopping. He outsourced his grocery shopping to an assistant that worked for $10-$15 an hour. It makes sense right? This book teaches you how to outsource your life and make more time for the stuff you love and really live life on your own terms. This book has been life changing for me because I am aligned with the message. It’s so me. I don’t waste time doing stuff I don’t want to do. I just don’t and if I absolutely have to, it’s only a temporary step on the way to more freedom of time.

If you’re happy with working a 9-5, this book is not for you. If you’re content working for other people, this book might not be for you. If you want to escape the rat race, make your own rules and be able to do more with the time you have, read this book.

You know what’s funny. In the book, Ferriss says that we read to much. I get his reasons for saying that, but I’m still on my personal challenge to read 1 book per week this year. On to the next one.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind and Mind Over Money

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth
I’ve been reading Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker for the last couple of weeks and I love it! It’s definitely in the top 10 books (maybe top 5) life changing books I’ve read in 2011 and perhaps my whole life. You can buy it for as little as a penny on Amazon, so there is no excuse not to read it.

If you have any negative beliefs about money, you will never reach your full financial potential. If you grew up around hearing: “Money doesn’t grow on trees”, “Robbing Peter to pay Paul”, “Money is the root of all evil”, “Rich people are greedy” or anything of the like, you must read this book! The biggest thing I’ve learned this year is that our negative programming and negative belief system really is the biggest, most problematic obstacle on the way to our dreams. When we can eradicate fear, doubt, negative beliefs and all the other foolishness, then we can really live the lives we want. It’s simple, what would you do today if you knew you couldn’t fail?
Mind over Money: Overcoming the Money Disorders That Threaten Our Financial HealthIf you’re jealous of wealthy people, read this book. If you think it’s ostentatious for people to drive $300,000 cars and you judge them, read this book. If you want money, don’t have it and don’t think you have any negative beliefs about money — I implore you to think again.
Reading Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth along with Mind over Money: Overcoming the Money Disorders That Threaten Our Financial Health by Brad Klontz and Ted Klontz will radically change your consciousness about your relationship with money. Once you know your condition, then you can change it. The bottom line is if you want money and don’t have then, according to Eker and the Kontz’s, you have some sort of dysfunctional with money.
If you think you’re too spiritual for money or money doesn’t matter, you’re dysfunctional about money. Did you know that Mother Teresa was born into a very wealthy family? Do you know how many millions of dollars in donations poured into helping her Missionaries of Charity organization each year? Even if you don’t require palatial estates or imported luxury cars, you can always donate the money the charitable organizations to help the less fortunate. It’s a big mistake to think you’re too good for money and you don’t need it. We all need money. It doesn’t have to be a first priority, but it must be respected.
Money is energy. I think money is probably one of the most perfect examples of how the universe works. Whatever you put out you get back. If you’re giving of it, it will give to you. If you respect it, it will respect you. If you work for it, it will work for you. If you love it, it will love you.
I could go on and on about these books, but you should really read them for yourself.

Law of Attraction by Michael Losier

This weekend I finished reading Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t by Michael J. Losier. I read the entire book while sitting under the hair dryer. I was first interested in the book after hearing Losier on a radio show and found out he’d been on Oprah and done some other interesting things.

If you already know the basics of the Law of Attraction, this book will seem repetitive. That being said, repetition is the mother of learning. If you’re already well-versed on the subject, this book will simply reiterate what you already know and drill the concept deeper into your subconscious.

Listen, the book isn’t filled with airy-fairy nonsense or overly complicated with quantum physics concepts.  It is straight to the point and easy for anyone to understand. This book is more practical than most other Law of Attraction books because it has helpful worksheets that you can use.The author also has the worksheets available on his Website. There are also loads of pictures and diagrams and tips on how to teach children how to use the law of attraction. If you have children in your life, this book would be a thoughtful (and perhaps life-changing gift).

How to Get Out of Your Own Way by Tyrese

How to Get Out of Your Own Way Tyrese

Earlier today, I read a tweet that Deepak Chopra sent to Tyrese. Also, Deepak’s #Follow Friday included @Tyrese. I thought that was odd. Then, I got home and I was watching Wendy WIlliams only because I saw that Tyrese would be on. Normally, I wouldn’t care, but because of the tweet I saw from Deepak earlier, I thought it would be interesting to check out. Tyrese was on Wendy talking about his new book: How to Get Out of Your Own Way. During the interview he seemed very evolved… maybe. I don’t know how many times he used the word “energy”, but he seemed very in tune with his spirituality. Anyway, I thought he was going to say something really profound until it seemed like Wendy was putting words in his mouth and kept cutting him off. Needless to say, I became very intrigued by his book. I was surprised to see the rankings on Amazon. It’s #2 on Amazon’s Self Help/Motivational books, right after Steven Covey and above the famed gurus like David Allen, Joseph Murphy and Napoleon Hill in this category.

I literally have seven books in transit as we speak and about 3-4 books that I’m reading now but I felt like I saw that tweet (I hardly ever read other people’s tweets) and watched Wendy (I hardly ever watch Wendy) for a reason and maybe I’m meant to read this book. At the time of this post, it has 41 out of 43 reviews with 5 stars on Amazon. I wish it was on Audible, he would have a great reading voice. Unenthusiastic, nasal or monotone readers are the biggest downside to listening to audiobooks, but I know Tyrese would kill it. Hopefully he can make that happen by the time I get to his book on by queue.

How to Attract Money Using Mind Power

How to Attract Money Using Mind Power by James Goi Jr. is one of the books in my rotation. I started reading it last month and actually finished reading it in one sitting. It only took an hour or two. It is the kind of book that you use with a journal and read every day. It’s an amazing book. I strongly believe that the only thing keeping us from our goals is our negative belief system. This book helps you really dig deep into why your money situation isn’t the way you want it to be. What I love about this book is that you can apply it to all areas of your life and really get a grasp on how you think about those areas of your life. Once you discover your core negative beliefs, you can really begin the work of evolving. I was surprised to know how much the money we have (or don’t have) now is connected to self-image, our upbringing, fear, thinking of how others will perceive us and more. It’s only 101 short pages and I have a feeling that if we really practice the lessons and apply them to every area of our lives, we will come to many life changing realizations. I love books that are like workbooks that you have to use in conjunction with a journal, I have about 3 different journals for 2011 and they are all about half full. This book is well worth the $7 that you’ll have to shell out for it, but that’s a bargain to have a money/life coach right at your fingertips.

The Mastery of Love

The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship (Toltec Wisdom Book)This week I read The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship by Don Miguel Ruiz. If you are a highly evolved person seeking other highly evolved people in your life, this is a great book for you.

It is my opinion (and perhaps a fact) that not very many people know what love is. This book explains love and dispels many of the myths and fallacies about love and not just about romantic love, but love of all types.

You will learn how your parents’ relationship (or lack thereof), during your formative years, shaped the way you behave in relationships (whether you know it or not). You will learn that people operate either out of love or out of fear, love does not hurt, love has no fear, love is not attachment, love does not worry, love is not judgmental and so much more.

My favorite quotes from The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship:

You cannot change other people. You love them or you don’t. You accept them the way they are or you don’t. To try to change them to fit what you want them to be is like trying to change a dog for a cat, or a cat for a horse.

The one who loves you, loves you just the way you are. Because if someone wants to change you, it means you are not what that person wants.

If you cannot love your partner the way she is, someone else can love her just as she is. Don’t waste your time, and don’t waste your partner’s time. This is respect.

The book also talks about self love which is by far the most important love relationship you will ever have, so whether you’re in a relationship or not, this book will change your idea of love forever.

Reminder: I’m open to your suggestions. Have you read a book that changed your life? Please share in the comments.

Emotional Freedom Techniques: Tapping

Source: ThrivingNow.com

One of the things I learned about from  The Ultimate Soulmate Summit  was Tapping. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) or Tapping is a form of alternative psychotherapy that uses tapping on acupuncture points while a patient focuses on a specific traumatic memory. This is said to manipulate an energy field and cause a release of the pain or stress associated with said trauma. If you’re into the Law of Attraction, you should definitely check this out. This method requires you to call up a negative emotion, really feel how you feel about it: angry, mad, sad, hurt… whatever and talk it out while tapping on the acupuncture points to release the negative emotion and then once you work through it, you tap in positive affirmations.

The Tapping World Summit started last night and the first sessions were all about money and how we can overcome our limiting beliefs about money with tapping. I’ll be tuning in to this in lieu of reading a book for the next two weeks. It’s free and the science around it is really quite interesting.

If you are interested, the introduction videos were really helpful in explaining the basics and you can also download a free e-book to help get you started. It seems pretty simple. I’m very optimistic about it. I’m hoping some of you have tried it and can share your experience or if not, some of you will try it with me.

The summit will feature 20 presentations that will cover several topics:

  • Clearing the Energy of Scarcity and Lack to Finally Bring in the Money You Want and Need
  • Eliminating the Hidden Obstacles that Keep You From Finding the Perfect Soulmate
  • Overcoming Cravings for Food by Understanding and Eliminating the Emotions that Drive Them
  • Manage Pain and Illness with EFT
  • Using EFT to Help Other People in Your Life
  • How to Master the Emotion of Anger
  • How to Overcome Procrastination and Increase Productivity
  • How to Use Tapping to Fly Into Action in Your Life
  • How to Harness the Law of Attraction with EFT

The Ultimate Soulmate Summit

In lieu of reading a book or listening to audiobooks, for the past week, I’ve been listening to The Ultimate Soulmate Summit that started on Valentine’s Day. It’s a FREE online teleseminar series. I’ve always been incredibly intrigued by relationship dynamics and spirituality so all of this has been enlightening and transforming. The tagline for the seminar is “For anyone ready to find true love” and after listening to these love experts for the past few days, it’s pretty clear that true love starts from within. It’s this same theme that keeps coming up in The Secret: The PowerSuper Rich: A Guide to Having it All and The Vortex: Where the Law of Attraction Assembles All Cooperative Relationships.

It’s interesting that I actually discovered The Ultimate Soulmate Summit through one of my “Books O’ the Week”. It’s fun seeing how one book leads me to the next, then leads me to new things like different types of breathing techniques, new methods of meditation, visualization, EFT tapping, the Sedona Method and I could go on and on. We’re only in month 2 of 2011 and my new year’s resolution to read life-changing books to really evolve and grow as a woman seems to be taking off exponentially. I am excited to review all of what I’ve learned at the end of 2011 and compare who I was to who I have become. I also look forward to hearing your evolution if you’ve been on this journey with me.

I strongly believe that listening to this will be transforming to anyone open to hearing the message whether you’re in a relationship or not. I truly believe that if you put some of the methods into practice, that you will transform every relationship in your life and really transform the most important relationship in your life: the one you have with yourself. Of course, the theme is heavily focused on singles looking for love, but if you can look at the bigger picture, you will get so much out of it.

It’s Day 8 (of 11… I think) of the The Ultimate Soulmate Summit, so there’s still time to join in and listen for free. You can also purchase the entire seminar if you missed a few days. I realize that some of you may be skeptical. When I was debating whether or not to listen, I was kind of rolling my eyes because I don’t really do online seminars or really any type of seminars. Something just made me want to listen and I’m so glad I did. It’s fun to talk about hair and fashion and all of that, but this really is more fulfilling for me to share with you because it’s been such a positive thing for me so far. I know you see all the banners and I’m hoping this doesn’t come off as a sales pitch. I just want to make sure that I spread the word! I mean, you see a lot of ads on Mane and Chic and I never talk about them in the content of my blog posts. This is something I’m really excited about, so Mane and Chic does not earn money for the ads, only if you buy the seminar or something and I don’t really expect many of you to do that since it starts at $97+.

If you’re at work and you can listen to headphones, turn off that radio and listen to The Ultimate Soulmate Summit. If you’re at home, step away from the tv and listen. If you’re killing time online shopping or playing games, you can listen while doing all of that.
